Local artist and former Hanover Middle and Elementary School Art teacher Paula Dorr has designed a yearlong art project for children and teens, who will paint large seasonal-themed murals to be hung in the game room at the South Cove Activity Center. The first one is already hanging! Paula invites the young artists to make a list of things they want to paint; each participant volunteers to paint a part of the canvas. The more confident students can volunteer to paint the more difficult parts of the mural.
During the children’s winter workshop, the class was introduced to the concepts of composition, color and design. Everyone was engaged and lively and helped one another when something was difficult. They used acrylic paints to produce a 40″ by 40″ canvas. Stay tuned for future mural-creation workshops with Paula or join her for an adult paint party.
