A Bridge boot camp has become an annual event at Eastman thanks to the efforts of the Eastman Bridge Club Director Jane Verdrager. This year’s camp, called Bridge Adventures, was the fourth year that Eastman hosted the nationally known instructor, Marti Ronemus, who spent four days in April leading the exercises in a full Draper Room at The Center. This year’s event drew 92 participants, a 20% increase over 2014, with players coming from every state in New England, from New York state, and from as far away as Texas.
Participants were not only treated to four days of learning and play, but to handouts and refreshments, including a buffet lunch each day. The flyer for the camp boasted that it would provide “more fun than grownups should have,” and from observing the activities during the camp, it appeared that the participants had just that while learning to play like the pros.
The Eastman Bridge Club hosted a tournament on the weekend immediately following the camp. During the two days of play, many Eastman residents earned Silver Master Points. The club will be going into its fourth year of play soon and welcomes players of all levels of ability. There is an ACBL sanctioned game every Thursday at 1 p.m. at The Center, with some players lunching in the pub beforehand.
