Those who fought for the home of the brave,
In remembrance brass plaques we engrave;
Great heroes that died,
Heroines by their side,
Sacrifice that our flag may long wave.
Revolution that gained independence,
Sons of liberty, valor transcendence;
1812 battles waged,
Land and sea thus engaged,
With the red, white, and blue in ascendance.
The war against Mexico fought,
Civil War with our unity bought;
Every time blood is shed,
We revere all the dead,
And remember the Maine we were taught.
World wars with so many courageous,
Long struggles against acts outrageous;
Common folk rally round,
Patriots then abound,
Gallant times that a foe did misgauge us.
Korea they called police action,
Vietnam with sad public reaction;
We must honor all those,
Gone to heroes repose,
Deepest feelings beyond mere abstraction.
Nation’s pain of past losses acute,
Every day, we should pay high tribute;
To those who now serve,
Grateful thanks they deserve,
To our finest arms raised in salute.
SALUTE Addendum
Those who fought in Iraq we revere,
Every veteran right up to this year;
Desert Storm not forgot,
We all owe them a lot,
The Afghanistan vets we hold dear.
