Welcome to our Celebrate Summer issue. We certainly have a lot to celebrate: receipt of a MetLife/GU Best Intergenerational Community Award, the reopening of The Center at Eastman, graduations and awards for Eastman’s students, and, of course, the long anticipated warmth of summer. And, now that the black flies have gone wherever they go at the end of June, I celebrate being able to write from the deck again.
When my husband and I decided to purchase a home for this phase of our lives, we knew that we definitely wanted to be in an intergenerational community: one where there are no age restrictions for residency; one in which the community supports activities for all age groups; and one where there will always be neighbors younger than us!
In this issue, we share with readers some cool spots to enjoy with the kids, grandkids, grandma and grandpa, and every friend and relative in between. Some of these spots may be right outside your door, others just a short drive away. We also include destinations that are day-trips—a couple short ones and a longer one to the Presidential Range where it is cool, even in summer.
Since Eastman is a destination in itself for many readers, we have filled this issue with photos that remind us of why we live here and some light reading, all courtesy of our gifted volunteer contributors. So, sit back, flip the pages, and enjoy the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer on your deck, on the beach, or wherever you choose to relax or play.
