This issue is a milestone for me as I begin my second year as editor of Eastman Living . It follows a pattern in my life of beginning ventures at this time of year. While many people see fall as the end of another, perhaps more favored season, I have always seen it as a beginning—my personal New Year.
Fall is, for me, a time of “refreshment.” The crisp air energizes me. The vibrant colors of the landscape cheer me and inspire me to unpack any latent creative tendencies. I spruce up what needs to be spruced, right what needs to be righted, and update what needs to be updated.
It’s that energy and sense of refreshment that I wanted to bring to this issue. The pages are full of brilliant photos of new beginnings in and around Eastman—The Center at Eastman, a new bridge at Brookside Park, and a first-ever exhibit by Eastman’s photography group. Fall is not all visual-delight, however; it is also a season of thanksgiving and memorials. For a second year, we pay tribute to Veterans Day by introducing readers to some extraordinary people in our community and to a memorial on Road Round the Lake that often goes unnoticed.
Fall is pumpkin pie and apple cider. Homemade memories with a little spice. There is still time for late-season paddles around the lake or in nearby ponds. Or for hikes with friends. And the gift of an occasional warm day for a lazy lunch on the deck, or in my case, for writing an editor’s note. It is a timeto reset and refresh.
