A year ago, Eastman Living began a series featuring the 16 Special Places in the Eastman Community Association (ECA). Each engaging piece was written by a resident of the Special Place and demonstrated that each of these “neighborhoods” has a personality of its own. Throughout the year, readers were introduced to these places’ practices—some rather unusual like the pot-banging New Year’s celebrations in Anderson Pond Special Place— others more traditional like Brookridge’s participation in the annual ECA Chili Cook-off.
Some, like Greensward, South Cove and West Cove Special Places, are hubs of activities where Members from throughout the community use the amenities. Others, like Beaver Fells, Bright Slopes, and Deeryard, are more tranquil spots, tucked away in the hills or in out-of-the-way sections of the community’s 3,800 acres.
On the next few pages, residents of four Special Places write the final chapters for this series. The tenure of the contributors’ ownership in the community ranged from 38 years to a mere five months. The Eastman Living editorial staff sincerely thanks each of the ECA Members who contributed to this series.
