Things are supposed to slow down after summer, right? Well, not here at Eastman. All you have to do is read your Winter Recreation Guide, Eastman Highlights, and News & Notes to see all that is going on. As you read this, ECA governance and staff are in the throes of preparing the FYE2021 budget. One of those budget items is Eastman Living magazine.
This publication is a work of love for many people, and it shows. The volunteer “Editorial Board,” working with a few staff members, suggests ideas for many of the articles in each issue. Other articles are the brainchildren of ECA’s many committees, which are populated by volunteers. The articles are written by volunteers (as opposed to ECA staff), but not always the same ones who came up with these “bright ideas.”
And the photos? Also submitted by volunteers, but I’m sure most of the photographers who submit images to our publications—including our e-newsletters, websites, and social media pages—don’t consider themselves volunteers. They’re just people taking photos of things they love to see and do in Eastman…pictures of family, friends, pets, and wildlife enjoying what our community has to offer. Our publications would be very dull indeed without these photos – from the small images on Page 5 to the aerial image on Page 20, from the Facebook cover photos to the photo galleries on our Members’ Information Portal (eastmannh.us).
Thank you to the many volunteers who work to make our publications amazing. Your efforts are appreciated by our readers. If you are interested in volunteering in Eastman in any capacity, drop a line with your interests and “qualifications” to admin@eastmannh.org, and we’ll help you find something that fits.
And remember, Eastman Living, et al, are brought to you in living color and colorful words by (mostly) volunteers.
Wishing everyone a healthy and fun winter (hint: see pages 29-31),
Lorie McClory, Editor
Chief Marketing & Communications Officer
